Creative Consultant and Homewares Designer
Matilda Goad is a London-based creative consultant and homewares designer with a unique aesthetic. She works across a diverse range of projects uniting the fields of fashion and décor to create visually stunning settings and covetable items for the home.
Matilda grew up in Sussex and explored her creative side by studying at Camberwell College of Arts. A stint at Russian Vogue was followed by a role as junior fashion editor at Wonderland magazine before assisting Venetia Scott, currently fashion director of British Vogue.
Matilda’s eclectic vision and passion for interiors led to her being commissioned for special projects, such as executing memorable tablescapes and boutique windows for fashion brands Racil and Shrimps, Italian restaurant Lina Stores and Soane Britain. For several seasons she has produced the windows of luxury shoe brand Penelope Chilvers’ Notting Hill and Mayfair boutiques - always with a dash of her signature quirkiness and irony.
The Matilda Goad brand was born organically in 2016 when Matilda began designing bespoke items for the events she’d been commissioned to produce. Often the result of not being able to find what she is looking for, her signature scallop shades and rainbow-hued cutlery are playful, textural and have garnered a cult following. She subsequently made her retail debut in 2017 with a pop-up shop in London’s Chelsea. Her framed botanicals and scallop tole planters were a sell-out success and renowned illustrator Susannah Garrod was on hand to personalise purchases.
As part of London Craft Week in 2018, Matilda was tasked with decorating the windows of revered antiques dealer Jamb. Choosing to spotlight the Pimlico Road boutique’s famous stone busts, she adorned a selection with handmade sea shell crowns holding pastel beeswax candles of her own design and collaborated with florist Kitten Grayson to bring a visual feast to life.
Summer 2018 saw Matilda deliver one of her most ambitious projects yet: the wedding of fashion designer Hannah Weiland (founder of Shrimps). Asked to consult on the overall design of the event, she oversaw briefs for the florists, caterers and illustrators and created a wonderfully unique pub for the bride and groom, sourcing every item to make it truly authentic.
In September 2018, Matilda made her debut at iconic store Liberty London. In celebration, three versions of her scallop raffia lampshades have been created exclusively for the department store featuring handpicked vintage floral Liberty prints.
As of 2018, Matilda joined House & Garden magazine as a contributing editor.
