George III Period 18th Century Carved Giltwood & Gesso Mirror
The Irish Chippendale Rococo upright rectangular mirror retains its original plate and is crisply carved with intricate detail throughout. The frame is centred by a crest above finely carved 'C' scrolls and a carved scalloped shell. The shoulders have carved acanthus leaf decorated 'C' scrolls and pierced relief carved mouldings above decorated columns. The sides are flanked with architectural elements of design hung with intertwined floral acanthus leaves, central carved rosettes and a pagoda shaped platform above carved leaf scrolls. The bold rounded corners of scrolling leaf-work to the apron are complimented with a centred ornamental decoration with similar pierced scroll work to the top.
