Georg Tronnier, German (1873-1962)
Oil on canvas signed 'Georg Tronnier 1915'. Georg Tronnier (Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Nahrstedt) was born in Gifhorn, Germany in 1873. From 1894 he was a portrait painter in Hanover and was strongly influenced by Wilhelm Leibl and Franz von Lenbach. Aside from portraits he designed posters for Bahlsen and Pelikan. In 1904, he married Lucie Matthias an actress from Hamburg whom he met at the theatre and in 1911, their daughter Mirjam was born. This picture dated 1915, shows a young girl about the same age Mirjam would have been, when painted.
