This is a fine cabinet on stand following a traditional type of architectural cabinets produced in the Low Countries and Flanders from the 17th century. The cabinet is decorated with red tortoiseshell panels with ivory stringing, ebonized wood and ivory handles. The main body of the cabinet is enclosed by two doors which when open reveal an arrangement of fourteen drawers and a central cupboard. The foliate carved top includes two further drawers and a door enclosing a compartment suggesting a ballroom with chequered floor and faceted walls with mirrors. The contemporary stand with spiral legs and three drawers is similarly decorated, 19th century.
