This is the 402 cantilevered chair by Finnish Architect/Designer Alvar Aalto in 1933.
Aalto became the foremost 'functionalist' architect after designing the 'Paimio' sanatorium building in his native Finland. He designed every item within this stunning building and several of the chairs have become design classics. Everything was designed to make the lives of the patients and staff more pleasant and bearable.
The 402 chair was the first wooden cantelivered chair and was produced in several variants.
This example is a very early & rare Finmar 'Red Plate' model re-upholstered in Mourne Textile.
The table is another classic Aalto design incorporating his famous 'bent-knee' leg and a rare 'Karelian' birch top.
Vase by British designer Keith Murray for Wedgewood.
