Superb large crested and carved George III silver mounted coconut cup London 1799
This superb large crested and carved George III silver coco nut cup was made in London in 1799 by Phipps and Robinson and measures 7.25 inches tall by 4 inches in dia across the top and base, the pedestal base has a reeded border leading up to the cup which is superbly carved with flowers, cornucopias, gadrooning, belle flower. diamond, leaf, fish scale and bead decoration and a central matte engraved roundel with a mythical animals head crest inside. It is fully and clearly hallmarked under the base and to the top border with the monarchs head, lion passant and date letter. The cup is beautiful and in super condition, there looks to be an old fissure of about 0.5 of an inch but this is filled and stable and doesn’t detract at all from this special cup.
