Nice quality George III silver swing handle basket Sheffield 1777 Richard Morton
This beautifully pierced and embossed early Sheffield made George III silver swing handle basket was made in Sheffield in 1777 by Richard Morton and measures almost 12 inches in length by 9.75 inches wide and is 3 inches tall – 9.5 inches with the handle raised. The basket sides are pierced with garlands and drops of belle flowers and 2 male masks and 2 flower head roundels to opposite ends. The collet foot is also pierced and there is a beaded border around the foot and also on the border of the basket, the handle is also pierced with a cross design and has beading to both sides, it is fully hallmarked underneath and weighs 21.55 ounces or 672 grams.
