Burr Walnut Silver Vanity Box
Antique Sterling Silver Vanity/Dressing Box by W & J Milne veneered in stunning figured Burr Walnut with Ebony quadrant edging and ornate monogrammed brass initial plate.
Lifting the lid of this Burr Walnut vanity box reveals a navy blue velvet lined interior which houses ten beautifully engraved and monogrammed sterling silver topped glass jars, surrounding a fitted removable accoutrements pad with mother of pearl handled tools, including a file, knife, scissors, pricker and corkscrew. This tool pad and five of the jars are housed in a removable tray that has a large storage space underneath. The top of the lid has a removable ruched velvet and reversible mirror which also has a concealed blotter, this secret compartment can only be accessed by pressing a catch under the lock keep.
On the back edge of the open box is a brass button. Pressing this button causes a hidden drawer to the front of the box to spring open! This drawer is fitted to hold all manner of jewellery and includes a compartment for holding rings, earrings and cufflinks.
The sterling silver lids on the jars share the same monogram as the exterior of the box. The silver is hallmarked by London Silversmiths: Brockwell & Son (Henry Titterton Brockwell) 1894
